Considering sending their son to
Ashfield Boys' High School
At Ashfield
Boys' High School we feel that parents have a critical
role to play in the education of their children. We hope
that you are ambitious for your boy, that you will take an
active interest in his education and make him aware that
you care.
Please make
sure that he is adequately equipped in terms of uniform,
schoolbag, pens and pencils and
Physical Education clothing and footwear. An Ashfield PE
kit is available from the school.
There are a
number of occasions throughout his school career when you
will be invited to interviews
or open nights. We hope that you will attend on these
occasions or on any other occasion by appointment when you
think it necessary.
Normally
parents of year 8 pupils visit the school in October to
discuss opportunities, hopes, or fears. In year 10,
choices are made of subjects to be studied in years 11 and
12. Parents are fully involved in these choices. An Open
Night is held in January each year, when parents may meet
the school staff and see examples of pupils' work. All
parents of year 12,
13 and 14 pupils have the opportunity to attend an
interview after the mock examinations to discuss progress.
From year 10
until leaving school your son will receive in depth
vocational guidance.
You will be
invited to be present at Careers Guidance interviews.
You will
receive regular progress reports on your son's work. In
years 8 to 10 reports are sent out
at least twice a year. This will increase in Years
11-14. Five parents afternoons and evenings are held in
February/March each year to enable parents to discuss
their childrens report and general progress with their
subject teachers.
Each Friday
afternoon your son will present to you his homework book
for that week.
This should
be signed by you and returned on Monday morning. We
feel that regular homework is essential for good progress
and you are asked to check each Friday and take action
where work is found to be unsatisfactory.
In Ashfield
Boys' High School we are committed to providing a high
quality education for your
sons.
We have high
standards of teaching and demand good conduct and
behaviour, so that every pupil
has the opportunity to reach his full potential. All
pupils are expected to behave responsibly, to work hard,
to display good manners and to show consideration and
respect for other people at all times. No pupil
will be permitted to affect adversely the education of
others by his bad behaviour.
All pupils
are expected to obey the "Instructions to Pupils" document
about dress, behaviour,
and general conduct. Breaking of such rules will lead to
sanctions being applied by the Class Teacher or the Year
Teacher. We depend on the support of parents.
