Music is taught at Key Stage 3
and GCSE level, and all boys are encouraged to develop their
skills in the three main areas of performing, composing and
listening. With one full-time member of staff, the music
department is well resourced with practice facilities and
instruments. These include pianos, electronic keyboards and
a wide range of tuned and un-tuned percussion instruments.
There is a fully-equipped recording studio, complete with
computer workstations to facilitate learning through Micro
Logic and Sibelius software.
Six peripatetic teachers visit
the school weekly to give lessons on brass, woodwind and
percussion instruments.
Many boys are involved in the
school band and various ensembles which perform regularly,
including at morning assemblies. Highlights of the year are
the annual Christmas carol service, Prize distribution,
Remembrance Service, Summer concert and visitation of local
nursing homes.
The music department’s second
CD was recently launched and copies are available from the
school.
