1.
Jesus - A man who lived in Israel in
the time of the Romans. Christians believed He was the Son of God.
2.
census - An official count of people
or things as in a survey.
3.
tax - Tax is money that is paid to
the government.
4.
astrologer - Someone who studies the
stars.
5.
carpenter
- A
skilled worker who makes things out of wood.
Year 9 LAC RE October
1.
Torah - The Jewish law and first
five books of the Bible. Jesus like other Jewish boys learnt this at
school.
2.
synagogue - A synagogue is the building
where Jews go to worship God. It is like a church or a temple.
3.
Sabbath - The Sabbath is the Jewish
day of rest and of worship to God. It takes place on a Saturday.
4.
disciple - A follower or person who
learns from a teacher. Jesus chose twelve special disciples.

1.
Passover -
A
Jewish festival celebrating the time when Moses led the people out of
slavery in Egypt.
2.
Sanhedrin -
The
Sanhedrin was the top Jewish court which had 71 members.
3. Pharisees
-
The Pharisees were very strict Jewish leaders.
4. Sadducees
-
The Sadducees were very like the Pharisees only they did not believe in
life after death.

1.
Samaritans -The
Samaritans were people from
Samaria.
The Jews and the Samaritans were enemies.
2. Messiah
-
Messiah
means “chosen one” or “anointed one”. Jesus was the Messiah that God
promised to send.
3.
saviour -
Another
way of describing Jesus. It means “the one who saves”.
4.
miracle
- A
miracle is a wonderful happening which cannot be explained and which is
thought to be impossible. Only God can do miracles.

1.
centurion
- A
centurion is a Roman soldier who is in charge of one hundred men.
2.
faith -
Faith is
trust or belief in someone or something.
3.
paralysed -
A person
who is paralysed cannot move or feel anything.
4.
forgive -
To pardon
someone or stop blaming them. Jesus forgave the woman’s sins.
5.
sin
-
To sin is to disobey God or break his law.

RE February
1.
foundation - The base upon which
something is built, for example, a house needs a good foundation but so
does life.
2.
parable - A parable is an earthly
story told by Jesus which has a heavenly meaning.
3.
Kingdom
of
Heaven
-The Kingdom of Heaven includes God’s people both on earth and in
Heaven.
4.
everlasting life - Everlasting life
is what God will give to those people who follow him and have been
faithful to him.

1.
evil - What is bad or harmful. The
parables tell us that God will separate the good from the evil.
2.
reward - To give someone something
in return for what they have done.
3.
Levite - A Levite is a Jewish religious leader and
upholder of the law.
4.
blasphemy -To speak in a wrong way
about God. Jesus was accused of blasphemy because he said he was God’s
son.

April
1.
the last supper - This was the meal
Jesus had with his disciples on the night before he died
2.
crucify - When someone is
crucified, they are put to death by nailing or binding their hands and
feet to a cross. It was used for the worst criminals.
3.
resurrection - Resurrection is coming back to life after
being dead. The resurrection of Jesus was three days after his death.

1.
ascend - To ascend means to go up.
Jesus ascended into Heaven for forty days after he rose again.
2.
church - The church apart from being
a building, is a group of people who meet to worship Jesus.
3.
missionary - A missionary is someone
who has the job of telling others about Jesus. Sometimes they go to
other countries. |
