Conversion graph
- We use a
conversion graph to change from one unit to another.
2.
Formula
- A rule written out in algebra is known as a formula.
3.
a.m.
- a.m. stands for ante meridian. This means before noon.
4.
p.m.
- p.m. stands for post meridian. This means after noon.

Square numbers
- The
square numbers are 1,4,9 ….. We get them from 1, 2, 3 …… We can use
the x² key on a calculator to work out the square numbers.

Square
root
- On a calculator there is a √ key. This is called a square root
key. It is the reverse of squaring a number.

Power
- 4³. The
power ‘3’ tells you how many fours are multiplied together. We can use
the x³ key on a calculator to work out powers.
4.
Pie chart
- A pie-chart shows how something is divided up. The angle of the
sector represents the number of items.

- A number sequence is a pattern of numbers.

Term
- Each number in the sequence is called a term.

Substitution
- Changing
a letter in algebra for a number.
4.
Power
- a². The power of ‘2’ tells you how many a’s are multiplied
together.

- A translation is a movement in a straight line.

Rotation
- A rotation is a movement round in a circle.

- When an object rotates it turns about a centre of rotation.

- An enlargement changes the size of an object. The change is the same
in all directions.

Scale
factor
- The scale factor tells us how many times bigger the enlargement
is.

Rotational
symmetry
- A shape has rotational symmetry if it fits on top of itself
more than once as it makes a complete turn.
4.
Order of
rotational symmetry
- The number of times a shape fits on top of itself. It must be 2 or
more.

numbers
- Numbers with minus signs in front are called negative numbers.

Positive
numbers
- Other numbers except zero are positive. Positive numbers are
sometimes written with a plus sign in front.

Directed
numbers
- Directed numbers are numbers with signs in front of them.

Less than
< or greater than >
- We often use the signs < and > with numbers. < means less than, and
> means greater than.

- An event is something that can happen in a probability question.

Probability
- The probability of an event is the number of ways that the event can
happen divided by the total number of things that can happen.
3.
Cancelling
fractions
- When we write probabilities as fractions, we should cancel the
fractions to their simplest form.

- The point where two lines cross is called a point of intersection.

Equation
- The rule of a line is called the equation of a line.

Ratio
- Ratio is a measure of the relative size of two things.

Scale
- The scale of a drawing gives the relative size of the actual length to
the drawn length.

- Area of a triangle = base x height ÷ 2.
