SEPTEMBER
1.
PRAYER - The method that we
use to talk or communicate with God.
2.
FATHER - A name we use to
address God. It is used in the Lord’s Prayer - “Our Father.”
3.
BIBLE - A collection of books
that are often described as God’s Word. There are 66 books in the
Bible.
4.
TESTAMENT - A covenant or
agreement. The Bible is divided into two testaments – Old and New.
YEAR 8 LAC RE OCTOBER
1.
PAPYRUS - Papyrus paper was
made by the Egyptians using dried reeds which grew by the River Nile.
Some parts of the Bible were written on these.
2.
PARCHMENT - The skins of sheep
and goats were dried, scraped and cleaned to make a smooth material
called parchment to write on.
3.
SCROLL - The parchment was
rolled up to make a scroll. The books of the Bible were first written
on scrolls.
4.
TRANSLATION - The Bible was
translated into English from Hebrew and Greek.

1.
LIBRARY - A library is a
collection of books. The Bible is called a “Divine Library.”
2.
REFERENCE - To look up a
particular place in the Bible we use a reference, for example, John
3v16.

CHAPTER - Each book is divided
up into chapters.
4.
VERSE - Each chapter is
divided up into verses.

1.
TORAH - The Torah is the
Hebrew name for the books of the Law in the Old Testament. They are the
first five books and were written by Moses.
2.
EXODUS - The second book in
the Old Testament. Exodus means “go out” or “exit”, and it tells the
story of the Israelites going out of
Egypt.

PSLAMS - The book of Psalms in
the Old Testament contains a collection of songs that give praise to
God. There are 150 and most were written by David.

1.
PROVERBS - A proverb is a wise
saying. The book in the Old Testament is full of good advice about how
to live.
2.
PROPHETS - There are seventeen
books in this section of the Bible. A prophet spoke God’s messages to
the people.
3.
GOSPEL - Gospel means “good
news”. The first four books in the New Testament (Matthew, Mark, Luke
and John) tell the good news about Jesus.

1.
DEAD SEA SCROLLS - A collection of
scrolls from the time of Jesus and earlier found near the Dead Sea.
2.
QUMRAN
- Qumran is the place where the Dead Sea Scrolls were found.
3.
COVENANT - A covenant is a
special promise. God made a covenant with Abraham.
4.
ZIGGURAT - The Ziggurat was
the temple in
Ur where
the Moon god Nannar was worshipped.

FERTILE - Ground is described
as fertile if it is able to produce crops.
2.
SACRIFICE - This word talks
about making an offering to God. Abraham sacrificed a ram instead of
Isaac.
3.
BIRTHRIGHT - A right or
privilege which someone is entitled to if they are born into a
particular family or country.
4.
BLESSING - A prayer that
blesses a person or thing. Jacob tricked his father to receive Esau’s
blessing.

APRIL
1.
REVENGE - Revenge is harming
someone in return for harm that they have caused. Esau wanted to get
revenge from Jacob.
2.
DECEIT - Making someone
believe something that is not true. Jacob deceived his father Isaac.
3.
ALTAR - A table or something
similar on which sacrifices were made. Jacob used the stone to build an
altar on.
4.
PROMISED LAND - The Promised
Land was the place that God promised to his chosen people, the Jews.

1.
FAVOURITE - When something is
a favourite it is liked more or given special treatment. Joseph was
Jacob’s favourite son.
2.
MERCHANT - A merchant is
someone who is involved in trade or business. Joseph’s brothers sold
him to merchants for 20 pieces of silver.
3.
PHARAOH - This is the title
given to the ancient Egyptian Kings.
4.
FAMINE - A famine is a huge
shortage of food or water. There was a famine in
Egypt and
Canaan. |
