line on a grid running east to west and is used to describe a position.

reference is a set of co-ordinates to describe the position of a place.

SYMBOL - A symbol is a letter
or a drawing on a map which stands for something real.

SCALE LINE - A scale line on a
map is a line marked out with scale distances which can be used for
measurement.
