ASHFIELD BOYS’ HIGH SCHOOL -
The name of my new school is Ashfield Boys’ High School.

ENGLISH - One of the subjects
I shall be learning at school is English.
3.
PLAYGROUND - At lunch time I
am allowed to play football in the playground.
4.
TIMETABLE - I know which class
to go to by reading my timetable.
5.
CLASSES - In my new school I
go to many different classes.
YEAR 8 LAC ENGLISH OCTOBER
1.
TEACHER - Each morning I have
to report to my class teacher.
2.
SUBJECT - Almost every period
I am taught a different subject.
3.
SCHOOLBAG - To protect my
books I must carry them in a schoolbag.
4.
PENCIL - It is important that
I carry a pencil to each class.
5.
RULER - A ruler is very useful
for ruling a straight line.

DINNERS - I am told that
school dinners are very good value for money.
2.
CORRIDOR - The school corridor
links the classrooms and special areas in the school.
3.
SHELVES - There are shelves
for holding books in all the classrooms.
4.
PUNCTUAL - It is important
that I am always punctual for school in the mornings and after lunch.
5.
REPORT - My parents will
receive a school report on my progress at Christmas and in the summer.

NOVEL - A novel is another
name for a storybook.
2.
DRAMA - Drama involves acting
and speaking.
3.
COMPOSITION - A composition is
a piece of story writing and it can also be a piece of music.
4.
COMPREHENSION - A
comprehension exercise is given to test how well a piece of information
is understood.
5.
STORY - A story can be an
account of anything, true or false and it can be written or spoken.

1.
SENTENCE - A sentence is a
collection of words that make complete sense.
2.
PARAGRAPH - A paragraph is a
distinct passage or section in a book or piece of writing.
3.
CAPITAL - Each new sentence
always begins with a capital letter.
4.
GRAMMAR - To put words
together in a correct form is called good grammar.
5.
COMMA - A comma is a
punctuation mark (,) and I shall be learning how to use it in my first
year.

1.
PUNCTUATION - Punctuation is
the use of symbols to make a piece of writing correct.
2.
APOSTROPHE - An apostrophe (')
is a sign to show that a letter has been left out or show that someone
owns something.
3.
SPEECH - Speech is the act of
speaking.
4.
BOOK REPORT - Sometimes after
I have read a book the teacher will ask me to write a book
report.
5.
EXAMINATION - Twice a year I
shall have to sit an examination in English to see the progress I have
made.

LIBRARY - The library in
school contains a lot of books which will be useful to me during my time
at Ashfield.
2.
DICTIONARY - If I need to find
the meaning of a word I can look it up in a dictionary.
3.
REFERENCE - Some of the
important books in the library are called reference books and they must
remain in the library at all times.
4.
FICTION - Some of the books in
the library are called fiction books and these are books which contain
made up stories.
5.
ENCYCLOPAEDIA - An
encyclopaedia is a special type of book which gives information on all
types of knowledge.

1.
AUTHOR - An author is a person
who writes a book.
2.
INDEX - The index is a section
at the back of a book which lists the contents of the book.
3.
PREFACE - The preface is an
introduction to a book.
4.
PUBLISHER - The publisher
prints and binds the book.
5.
ILLUSTRATIONS - Illustrations
are drawings sometimes used in books.

TYPES OF FICTION
1.
ADVENTURE - Describes a novel
in which people go on an exciting trail of events.
2.
SCIENCE FICTION - Describes a
novel in which the events are set in the future or in a time or world
which has never existed.
3.
MYSTERY - Describes a novel in
which the events are strange or unusual.
4.
HORROR - Describes a novel in
which the events and people produce fear.
5.
HUMOUR - Describes a novel in
which the people and events are funny or amusing. |
